Why was my return selected for review?
We review many tax returns (e-filed and paper) to determine whether the income information you included on your return matches with the information provided by your employer and other payers. Being selected for review may not mean that something is wrong with your return.
-
What documents are needed for a review?
We may request additional information to make sure that you receive the correct refund. You will receive a letter asking for information we need to complete our review, which may include a copy of your Form W-2 or recent pay stubs. All the information we ask for must be provided before your return can be processed.
-
How long does the review take?
Processing your return may take up to twelve weeks after we receive all the requested information. If you don't provide all the information, or if more information is needed, we may contact you again which could further delay processing your return.
-
Tips for completing the review
- Provide all the information we ask for in the letter
- Send the information by the deadline in the letter
- Send the information as instructed in the letter - we cannot take the information over the phone or by email
- If you can't meet the deadline, contact us to ask for more time
- Make a copy of what you send for your records
- After sending the information, allow up to twelve weeks for our review to be completed before contacting us
