January 10, 2024
To: Manufacturers
The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR), State and Local Finance Division would like to inform you that the manufacturing returns (M-R Forms) will be live the week of January 22, 2024 in My Tax Account (MTA) for the 2024 filing season.
New for 2024
- Act 12 legislation passed in 2023 exempts personal property from property taxation
- Form M-P no longer has a filing requirement and no longer appears in MTA
- DOR deactivated all manufacturing personal property accounts in MTA
MTA Benefits
MTA is a one-stop shop for account management, form filing, and bill payment
- Familiar – MTA consolidates tax filing to a system most businesses already use to file and pay business taxes
- Ease of use – MTA allows authorized users to complete tasks, such as:
- Request extensions
- File returns or assessment appeals
- Make penalty payments
- Modify and manage user access
- Secure - no downloading forms using third-party software
Before Filing – Next Steps
You or your representative must be registered as a user in MTA to e-file your manufacturing forms. If you or your representative are:
- Already registered – you don't need to do anything at this time
- Not registered – create a username and password following these steps:
- Go to MTA Logon screen: https://tap.revenue.wi.gov/mta/_/
- Click "New? Create new username"
- Complete new registration steps 1-3 (Logon Information, Customer Information, Active Business) and click submit; you will finish step 4 in mid-January 2024
Note: You can no longer file in MAS; however, your historical filings from 2022 and prior years will still be available for review until March 29, 2024.
